Situated within an upscale residential area typical of Kuwait City’s densely built-up interior, this project is a single family house that seeks to define its own context. The project brief informs a simple organizational strategy in which the spaces of the house are distributed between two clearly articulated levels. The aggregate of these two levels takes the form of an elevated volume within a walled garden. Anchored to the lushly planted landscape, the lower level of the house is composed of public gathering spaces brought together in an open plan, reminiscent of a semi enclosed garden pavilion. The contrasting solid mass of the upper floor serves as a canopy to shade the exterior areas below, while forming a carefully filtered enclosure for the bedroom spaces within.
