This project is a residential building comprised of two town house units and two dual-level penthouse apartments. Conceived as a multidimensional interplay of mass and void, the design prioritizes the independence and privacy of each unit, while maintaining a unified compositional presence at scale with its surrounding context. The building’s four units are organized into a series of stacked volumes that accommodate interior space, open air courtyards, shaded terraces, and a shared circulation core. Alternating voids between the volumes permit outward views from deep within the building’s footprint, while allowing ample natural light to filter into the lower level courtyards. Areas of modulated openings within the coursing of the brick and stone cladding lightens the visual weight of the building’s mass, screening the perimeter interior spaces from the street during the day, and emitting a porous, lantern-like glow at night.
